Research and Teaching
My teaching and research are strongly connected and they feed off each other. My expertise areas span from Twentieth-Century Italian Poetry and Narrative, to Italian Cinema and Literary Transvestism. More recently I have started researching also in Postcolonial Theories with a more European Comparative perspective. I teach mainly at Honours and PG level and I direct the new MLitt in Italian Studies. I also coordinate a core module on Identity Studies for the CIS Mlitt and Mundus Master students, focussing mainly on Postcolonial theories and cinematic texts.
I research in all the areas that I teach, but my specialist area is that of Italian Poetry. The two poets I have devoted my attention to are Eugenio Montale and Cesare Pavese on which I have published extensively. I am currently working on two Monographs: one devoted to the poetry of Cesare Pavese, and one on the relationship of Eugenio Montale's poetry to Postmodernity. The long-term project I have ideated and intend to construct and disseminate globally is Mosaici: St Andrews Journal of Italian Poetry, a Journal and Resources Centre entirely dedicated to Italian Poetry (http://www.mosaici.org.uk).
