Getting to St Andrews

St Andrews is situated on the east coast of Fife, Scotland, UK. The town is approximately 50 miles north-east of Edinburgh, 14 miles south-east of Dundee, 78 miles south of Aberdeen, 82 miles east of Glasgow; and 466 miles north of London.

The closest airports to St Andrews which offer plenty of connections both nationally and internationally are: Aberdeen (84 miles); Edinburgh (48 miles); Glasgow (90 miles); Glasgow Prestwick (113 miles). Additionally, some airlines fly to Dundee Airport (15 miles), ScotAirways fly between London City Airport and Dundee, and Flybe travel to Dundee from Belfast and Birmingham.

From Edinburgh Airport you can proceed by Airlink bus to the centre of Edinburgh (Haymarket or Waverley Stations) and then by rail to Leuchars.

Car hire is available from the major firms at these airports and in the city centres.

The following are suggested routes to St Andrews from major Scottish cities: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Dundee and Aberdeen.

From Edinburgh

  1. Cross the Forth Road Bridge (A90) after Edinburgh.
  2. Shortly after the bridge A90 becomes M90.
  3. Proceed north along M90 to Junction 2a (Dunfermline) onto A92.
  4. Follow the A92 (through Glenrothes) until just before Cupar.
  5. Join the A91 and follow to St Andrews.

From Glasgow

  1. Travel east along the M8 to the Forth Road Bridge, via the M9 and A8000 link road to the A90.
  2. Follow instructions "From Edinburgh" above.

... by rail

There is no railway station in St Andrews. The nearest railway station to St Andrews is Leuchars (5 miles) on the main line from London King's Cross via Edinburgh, or Aberdeen.
