The School of Management Football Team
Management United (Man. Utd.)
As the School of Management has its own society in St Andrews, the Management Society, it also has its own Football Team: Management United. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only football team of a Management, Business or Economics School in the United Kingdom - hence another unique reason to study at the School of Management in St Andrews.

Management Utd. was founded in 2008 to provide a forum for male and female footballers from all over the world to enjoy a training game of football during the week and a competitive match in St Andrews' legendary Sunday Leagues. Its red shirts and shorts with the Management School 'logo' are an example of academic research informing practice, since researchers found teams playing in red to be more successful. Management Utd. also does well in integrating and uniting students from different cultures and programmes through football. Besides its social achievements, Management Utd. is also quite a good football team. In its first season (2008/2009), which it had to start in the lowest of St Andrews' Sunday Leagues, the team won six of its nine matches and eventually got promoted as 3rd of ten teams in the 2nd of three Sunday leagues.
Why join Management Utd.?
There are various reasons why students decide to join Management Utd. when studying for their postgraduate or undergraduate degree at the School of Management of the University of St Andrews. These include:
- Management Utd.'s training sessions and games offer a relaxing break from challenging studies.
- Management Utd. has a very nice and international team spirit with team members from all over the world.
- Management Utd. accommodates beginners as well as semi-professional footballers in its training session and its competitive matches.
- If possible, Management Utd. tries to watch at least one game of UEFA Champion's League, UEFA Euro League or Scottish Premier League during the academic year.
- Joining Management Utd. directly at the beginning of the academic year allows to quickly meet peers from different programmes and even play football with Lecturer(s) and Tutor(s).
