Could you inspire students to work in the charity / NGO sector? Could you excite them with your experiences of the challenges and satisfactions of a career in the sector? Could you give them advice on how to get started? If 'Yes', then please read on!
Dear Alumni
I offer Honours and Postgraduate electives in voluntary sector management and policy (MN4266 and MN5821) within the School of Management. I would like to draw the attention of students within the School to the particular challenges and satisfactions of working in charities and NGOs. What are the highs and lows? What are the personal challenges and satisfactions? Why have you chosen to work in this sector, rather then in private enterprise or the public sector? What's different about this sector?
I would also like to provide the students with information about how to develop a career within the charity / NGO sector. How do you get started? What sort of person do you need to be? What qualifications and skills are required? How do you get started as a new graduate? Would you need to spend time as a volunteer before joining the salaried staff? What sorts of posts are available?
If you would be interested in visiting the School to talk to students about your own organisation and experiences within the sector or if you would be interested in writing a paragraph or two for the School web pages, I would be delighted to hear from you! Please do contact me on eb19@st-andrews.ac.uk
I will also be very happy to provide more information about the module, on request.
With best wishes
