Kevin Orr is Professor of Management, and Head of the School of Management. His research interests are in aspects of managing, leading and organising, often in public sector settings, and his work adopts a critical perspective, contributing to conversations about leadership practices, learning, politics, power and traditions.

Kevin's most recent work explores organisational ghosts – how inheritances of the past haunt the relations and struggles of the present. Kevin has a particular interest in knowledge co-production and academic-practitioner relations, and he was awarded the 2013 Louis Brownlow Prize by the American Society for Public Administration. He served (2012-2014) as Chair of the Executive Board of the Organisational Learning, Knowledge and Capabilities (OLKC) research community. He has been a convenor of PhD colloquia at Northwestern University, Boston, USA; ITESM, Mexico; George Washington University, USA; BI Norwegian Business School; and the Universita Cattolica, Italy. His writing appears in journals which include Organization Studies, Management Learning, Public Administration Review, Public Administration, British Journal of Politics and International Relations, and Policy and Politics. He is co-editing a book on Knowledge and Practice for Routledge (2016).

Kevin has recently completed two ESRC projects exploring the impact of social science research. Kevin's work is connected with a number of international academic leadership roles. He is on the International Editorial Advisory Board of Management Learning, and the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Public Sector Management, and served as Chair of the Executive Board of the Organisational Learning, Knowledge and Capabilities research community. He is an experienced PhD supervisor and would welcome applications in relevant areas.

Earlier in his career Kevin worked at Strathclyde Business School. He held a Chair at Hull University Business School where he was Head of OB/ HRM and founded the Centre for Organisational Futures. He is an Affiliate of the Centre for Professional Work and Society at Loughborough University School of Business and Economics.
