SAULCAT - St Andrews University Library Catalogue

Typographical Collection

black and white illustration of of woman and man

The Typographical Collection (arranged by place and date of printing rather than by subject) from the Library's basic collection of early printed books. Retrospective conversion of approximately 2,000 items of 15th and 16th century printed books has been achieved as a result of NFF project. Although funding for this has now ceased, there remain another 1500 items to be added, and the Library is proceeding with this work as resources permit. Those still to be converted are mostly books printed in England and Switzerland. The Library has developed three rare books searches on SAULCAT, its on-line catalogue, which allow these collections to be located by place of printing , name of printers, booksellers, engravers and former owners. There is also a notes keyword search which finds information on provenance, binding, illustration, etc. Entering "dates" and "16th century", for example, will locate a book which has a manuscript annotation indicating purchase in the 16th century.
