E-books
The Library has made significant progress in employing new technologies and resources to meet the evolving teaching and learning needs of staff and students.
It now subscribes to a growing number of e-books and is actively evaluating several e-Book packages and services, in conjunction with Schools. Further developments will be publicised, as they take place.
What is an e-book?
Electronic books (or e-books) are the online, searchable equivalents of printed books, designed to be read on computer screens or hand-held devices.
e-books offer certain advantages over printed books - they are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; they can be browsed or read at leisure, from both on and off-campus; they offer sophisticated interactive functionality such as the ability to add notes; and enhanced features such as links to extra content - and, of course, there are no fines for late return.
What e-books are available?
You can find many of the e-books in SAULCAT, the online catalogue, by doing an author, title or keyword search. However, since some e-book collections, such as Early English Books Online, contain many hundreds of titles, these are not all individually listed in SAULCAT, at present.
Tip: to see a list of e-Books in SAULCAT, do a Keyword Search for 'electronic book'.
