Main Library redevelopment

Relocation of Special Collections

As part of the Redevelopment Project our Special Collections Department will be subject to access restrictions.  For more information please see the Special Collections website.

Access and service during Summer 2011

In order to allow building work to take place in the Main Library over the summer of 2011, staff and students will not be able to access the building from 30 May until 18 September.  We will however, continue to provide our full range of Library services from alternative accommodation on the campus.

Services

  • A temporary service point will be created in a central campus location providing the full range of desk services including enquiries, reservations and inter-library loan pickups

  • Space will be provided alongside the service point to house our short loan collection and key reference materials.

  • Full online support via email, our website and Meebo will remain available.

  • Our Academic Liaison staff will be available for consultations at St Marys and the JF Allen Library.

Access to content

  • Our full range of digital content will be available both on and off campus.  Our Academic Liaison Team and other specialist staff will be available to provide support if needed.
  • We will provide a retrieval service for any items of stock held in the Main Library building.  Items will be delivered to our temporary service point twice a day.
  • A very small amount of material will need to remain in dark store during the building work.  If a customer needs to access a copy of an item in dark store, the Library will arrange for a copy to be borrowed from another Library using inter-library loan at no cost to the customer.
  • We will extend borrowing entitlements for post-graduate students and staff to allow them to select any items they might need to access over the summer before access to the building is restricted.

Study Spaces

  • Alternative study spaces will be available in centrally located seminar rooms across the campus providing 80 plus spaces for study.

  • We will extend the opening hours of St Mary’s Library and will continue to staff the JF Allen Library on the North Haugh throughout the summer.
