Biomed Central
Biomed Central is a publisher of open access journals in the areas of Science, Technology and Medicine. All original research articles are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately. BioMed Central views open access to research as essential in order to ensure the rapid and efficient communication of research findings.
The Library has arranged for the University of St Andrews to have Prepay Membership of BioMed Central. This means that St Andrews researchers will have their publishing charges paid from our membership account, with a 10% discount.
Publishing with BioMed Central
With our Prepay Membership, you can publish in BioMed Central journals without having to make a direct payment. Funds will be reclaimed by the Library from individual researchers or relevant School funds on a regular basis in order to keep our membership account topped up. In some cases we may be able to reclaim the funds from a central Wellcome Trust Open Access grant (see section on Wellcome Trust compliance)
You will be automatically recognised as a member of BioMed Central when you log in to submit an article, saving you from dealing with payment at that time. You will find full instructions on submitting your manuscript online. Please note that the Library will receive notification of your submission and before agreeing that the University will incur costs, we will contact individual authors (or Directors of Research) to confirm they are happy to reimburse the Library for the publication charge.
You retain copyright on articles published in BioMed Central, using a Creative Commons licence; therefore you are free to use your article wherever you choose. We will deposit a copy in our repository Research@StAndrews: Full Text on your behalf.
