What will happen to my WebMail mailbox after I activate my SaintMail account?
Once you have activated your SaintMail account, we will transfer any information from your existing WebMail account to your new SaintMail account. You will not have access to WebMail after moving to the new email service.
Will I get to keep my address book?
Yes. Your address book will be emailed to your new account. Within the email is step-by-step instructions on how to import your existing contacts.
Is there anything I should do with my mail before I opt-in?
No but since any single email over 25MB in size will not be migrated to SaintMail, we recommend anyone dealing in very large attachments to check your WebMail and save attachments from mails over 25MB (25,000KB) to a known location. To see if you have any emails over this limit please follow the steps listed below:
- Log into WebMail
- Sort by size by clicking the up arrow in the Size header.
- As email is displayed from smallest file to largest, click the up arrow in the size to reverse the order (largest will now be at the top)
- If any single email is over 25,000KB, save the content of the email to a location of your choosing.
Will I have to remember a new email address and password?
No, your email address stays the same, and your password is the one you use when logging into the University systems. There is an exception if you are using IMAP/POP to access your mail - see below.
Users who have previously setup an email program to check their university email will need to re-configure this once they move to SaintMail. Detailed instructions can be found on the IMAP settings page.
Why will I be asked to create a second password during the opting in process?
To protect your St Andrews password a second Google-side Password will be needed to access non web-based services, such as getting your email with a program like Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, Entourage or Apple Mail. This Google-side password will be chosen during step 2 of the SaintMail opt-in process. Please note that your normal password is still required to access SaintMail via the web gateway.
If I have a problem with my saintmail account who do I ask for help?
Please see our SaintMail Help section for a detailed answer and FAQ.
Research postgraduate students must read our Information for postgraduates before opting-in to SaintMail.
What timescales can I expect after I opt-in to SaintMail?
- You will be able to sign into and use your new SaintMail account straight away.
- New email messages will be directed to your SaintMail within one hour.
- Your WebMail address book extract will be mailed to you within two hours of you opting-in.
- We aim to migrate your existing email from before 31 May 2009 immediately (NB this will not be the case for Research Postgraduates) and this should be waiting for you when you first log into your SaintMail account. Emails you have received since 31 May 2009 can take up to 24 hours to migrate. Depending on the size of your mailbox this process may take longer.
