Below you will find a list of the standard equipment and software available for purchase via IT Services. Peripherals

IT Consumables
Purchase of computer consumables is now done directly through Aptos, the University's finance system. Regarding printer cartridges, it is worth noting the following advice:
- go for large capacity versions wherever available and save money in the long run
- look out for 'low toner' indicators on your printer: some models of printer stop working abruptly and completely when any of their cartridges needs to be replaced
- other printers will show signs of poor quality output when the toner is low, but if the cartridge is taken out and shaken will then carry on working well for some considerable time afterwards.
Miscellaneous Software or Hardware
It is acknowledged that it is difficult to find single choices of equipment which suit every need within the University. Therefore, at times, departments will need to buy equipment which is not that described here. Reasons might include:
- Bespoke software determining the choice of hardware
- Special performance required e.g. high-resolution graphics
- Changing technology, particularly in developing areas e.g. hand-held devices.
- Specialist needs
However, these should be exceptions and it is expected that there will be substantive reasons for needing different equipment. Furthermore, it is expected that those reasons can be justified.
To order these items please use the standard IT Services Order form.
Personal purchase
The University no longer processes personal purchases on behalf of students or members of staff. You can still be eligible for discounted prices: for example, the Apple store or Getech’s student store will take personal orders from students and staff. Students can obtain MS Office and Windows 7 at reduced cost from the Microsoft Student Education web pages.
