Cabled Firewall Restrictions
The cable connections firewall permits the majority of network services deemed as essential to staff and students for academic study and research. Staff and students should find that the majority of network services for activities such as web, email, ftp, webct and text-based communication is available to them. Applications and network services which require non-standard ports are blocked by the current configuration of this firewall. Ports will not be enabled inbound to this network.
Services not currently available on the cabled and wireless network include:
- Connection to majority of external gaming servers
- VOIP hardware phones (eg. Vonage)
- Applications requiring a large number of open TCP or UDP ports
- Video conferencing via AOL, MSN, Yahoo messenger
