Google Android OS
It is difficult to provide information about tablets which use Google's Android operating system because there are so many available, all with differing specifications, and most using different versions of Android OS. Because Android is open to developers, many have written custom interfaces and have chosen to implement only some of the features available.
Also, there are a number of versions of Android OS available on tablets provided by different manufacturers. Many now use version 2.2, with a few still sticking with version 2.1. Some manufacturers use even older versions of Android (as far back as version 1.5). Android 3.0 (also known as Honeycomb) is the latest version, and is the only one designed specifically for tablet devices.
Before purchasing an Android-based tablet you are strongly advised to contact the IT Service Desk for advice on what is compatible with University email, calendar and wireless data connection via Eduroam. We cannot have full knowledge of these devices but we will endeavour to advise you based on research done at time of asking.
Set out below is a list of Android-based tablets. This list is by no means exhaustive and is provided only to show the variety of choices available.
