Registering for the MOS Program

The first step is to decide for which Microsoft Office 2010 applications you are seeking certification (e.g. Word, Excel, etc). You may register for more than one Office program but it is recommended that you complete one certification (i.e. sit an exam) before attempting another. Register for the MOS program and apply for a certification pack as follows:

Apply for a certification pack

  1. Send an email to it-training@st-andrews.ac.uk with “MOS Registration” in the subject line.
  2. Include the following information:
    • Your name
    • Contact email (preferably your university account)
    • Dept/School
    • Degree program (if applying as a post-graduate)
    • The Microsoft Office 2010 programs for which you want GMetrix practise tests (eg Word, Excel, etc)
    • The MOS Exams you intend to sit (eg Word-Core; Excel-Expert, etc)
  3. You will be emailed a Certification Pack. The pack will contain:
    • a GMetrix Registration Card detailing the account registration procedure and the access code(s) required to use the GMetrix practice tests (a sample registration card is shown below).
      • Each access code will allow you to start up to 50 practice tests.
    • Quick Start Guide for installing and using the GMetrix evaluation software. For more information about the GMetrix Skills Evaluation System see the Skills Evaluation page.
    • a document containing tips for sitting the MOS certification exams.

When you receive your certification pack you should install the GMetrix evaluation software, which will enable you to evaluate your skill level and identify weak skill areas. To aid preparation for MOS exams, there are various training resources available to help address skill areas in need of improvement. See the certification process pages for more information about other training resources and sitting exams.
