Set up UniPrint on a Mac running OSX 10.5 / 10.6

Open System Preferences by clicking on the Apple logo in the top left hand of the screen

Open Print & Fax

Click the plus (+) button to add a printer and follow instructions below:

In order to add UniPrint as a printer the Advanced icon must be visible on the toolbar.  If the Advanced icon is not visible add it to the toolbar as follows:

  • Point your cursor at a blank part of the toolbar
  • Hold the control (marked ctrl) key and click your mouse button
  • Select Customize Toolbar from the menu which appears
  • Drag the Advanced icon onto the toolbar
  • Click Done to complete this part
  1. Click the Advanced icon
  2. In the Type section, select Windows from the drop down list
  3. Leave the Device section as Another Device
  4. In the URL section enter in the following:

smb://<your St. Andrews account>:<your St. Andrews account password>@st-andrews/uniprint.st-andrews.ac.uk/queue

    e.g. abc123:XyZ12B4s@st-andrews/uniprint.st-andrews.ac.uk/queue

N.B. The format of the smb:// string is critical, there is a colon between your account name and your account password, and an ampersand between your account password and the fully qualified name of the print server

  5. In the Name section, enter UniPrint
  6. In the Location section, leave blank
  7. In the Print Using section, select Generic Postscript Printer from the dropdown list
  8. Click Add.  Your printer will now be installed
