Managing messages in WebMail
You must not leave your messages to accumulate in your INBOX. This means you should read your mail regularly and dispose of your messages once you have read them. "Dispose" means either delete and purge them or move them to another folder.
The notes on this page tell you how to use folders to manage your messages efficiently. Most of the business of using folders is done in the Folders window.
But to move from one folder to another you use the little selection box in the top right of the WebMail window: this box contains the word "INBOX". If you click on the box you will see a list of your folders, and you can choose which folder to open.
Folder management
If you have not used WebMail before you will have your INBOX, 'drafts' and 'sent-mail' listed in the Folder Navigator. If you have used WebMail you may have some other folders showing up as well.
- Click the "Folders" link on the menu bar underneath the WebMail header.

- If the screen then looks like the picture above, (6 folders in the list on the left hand side of the window) it means that you have four folders plus your INBOX and your "sent-mail" folder. If you have used WebMail for a while, one of the folders (as here) may be an old sent-mail folder. WebMail will work more efficiently if you only have a few folders. You can create further folders as you need them.
- To manipulate a folder, such as the "sent-mail" folder, check the box beside it and then select an action from the drop-down list marked "Choose Action:".
- To create a new folder select the action labelled "Create folder" and type a name for your new folder, such as "departmental", in the window that appears.
- You can call your folders anything you like, but you should not have spaces in the folder name. For example, use "my-messages" rather than "my messages".
- When you have entered a name, click OK.
- The new folder will be immediately included in the list of folders in the Folder Navigator.
- To rename a folder: check the box beside that folder, then select the action labelled "Rename a folder", from the drop down list of actions. Type the new name in the dialog box and click OK.
- To delete a folder: check the box beside that folder, then select the action labelled "Delete folder(s)". You will be asked whether you are sure you want to delete the folder, click ok. Then there will be a second warning telling you that all the messages in that folder will be lost as well; click ok, if you are certain there is nothing in the folder you wish to keep.

- To download a folder and its contents: Check the box beside that folder, then select the action "Download folder(s)". You will receive the prompt to the right.
- Click ok, and then select "Save" in the following dialogue box.
- Choose the location you want to save the file in, and remember to give it an appropriate name and file extension. If you use the extension ".mbx", and save it with your other Eudora mail folders, you can then view the contents through Eudora.
- Having saved the file on your own computer, you can then delete the original folder within WebMail. This will give you more space in your e-mail account.
- Where there is an "(s)" beside an action in the drop down list, you should be able to perform that action on more than one folder at a time. To do this, just check the box beside each of the folders in the list you want to affect.
When you have finished sorting out your folders, click the INBOX icon on the menu bar to return to your message list.
Store your message
- Back in the INBOX screen click on the check-box beside the message that you want to move - a tick appears to show that the message has been selected.

- Now click on the box containing the words "Messages to:" - a list of your folders will appear.
- Choose the folder you want from the list.
- Click "Move".
- Note that there is an option to copy the messages rather than moving them. You should not usually use this option.
- The moved message will be crossed through, showing that it has been deleted from the INBOX. You still need to purge it, so click the "Purge deleted" link now.
- To confirm that it has been stored in the folder, click on the box containing the word "INBOX" in the top right corner of the screen.
- A menu of your folders will appear - choose the one to which you have just moved your message, then click the "open folder" link.
- You will now see a screen displaying a list of messages in the folder. You can click on the messages in the list to read them, just as in the INBOX.
