Changing your password

Please read the advice in our notes on strong passwords before changing your password.

You will need to enter:

  • your username
  • your current password
  • a new password (see our notes on strong passwords for help in choosing a password)
  • the same password a second time (to ensure that you have not made any mistakes when typing your password)

Some symbols such as ':' '|' and '@' will limit your ability to use certain resources, for example:

  • eVision sometimes has problems with passwords containing ':' and '|'
  • some Oracle forms will not work if you have the '@' symbol in your password

When will the change take effect?

  • For logging in to the classroom machines the change will take effect immediately
  • For accessing password-protected University web pages and services which use single sign-on (SSO) the change will take effect immediately
  • For logging in to Unix systems there will be a delay of at least 30 minutes before the change takes effect

1. Enter username and current password
2. Set a new password

Your password:

  • MUST have a minimum of 8 characters
  • MUST include in the first 8 characters at least one number (0 - 9)
  • MUST include in the first 8 characters at least one non-alphanumeric character (one that is not a letter or a number)
  • Should include a mixture of upper and lower case letters

If you need help choosing a password see our notes on strong passwords.
