Application for a non-personal email account

Use the form on this page if you want to apply for a non-personal email address. These addresses can be owned by staff or students, but not by external users. They can be used where you need to give several different users shared access to the mail sent to the address.

Non-personal addresses have to have a single identified owner. If you own a non-personal address you should transfer ownership to someone else before you leave the University -- otherwise the address will be disabled.

The way you manage your non-personal mail depends on you and your working practices. The system is designed to give as much flexibility as possible. If you want the email to be distributed to individual users' personal mailboxes (as opposed to a single shared mailbox) do not apply for a non-personal email address; instead contact the Helpdesk for advice.

Preferred account user name
All non-personal account addresses must have a username consisting of 6, 7 or 8 characters. e.g. weavtap@st-andrews.ac.uk

This can be more descriptive than the short form. It can contain full-stops but must not contain any spaces. e.g. WeavingAndTapestry@st-andrews.ac.uk
Account description (full name of account)
This can be up to 64 characters in length and can contain spaces. It will be used for Directory entries only.

If the account is for a student society the Helpdesk will approach the Students Association or Athletic Union for authorisation.
