Postgraduate Study

Taught Masters Programme

The Institute of Scottish Historical Research offers taught postgraduate programmes leading to the Graduate Diploma and the M.Litt in Scottish Historical Research. An overview of the programme can be found on the School of History website.

As part of this programme we offer a range of modules on specialised areas of Scottish history.

The core course, People and Identities in Scotland is taught by most members of the Institute and covers aspects of Scottish History from the earliest times to the Present.

A further three period-specific options are available, Living with the Lion: Themes in the Study of Medieval Scotland; Religion and Identity in Early Modern Britain; and Building Britain: The Construction and Deconstruction of Britishness, 1707-2000.

In addition students may tailor components of the programme to their own needs, taking skills modules (e.g. palaeography and Latin) or directed reading on specific topics with a specialist in that field.
