I have taught International Relations at St Andrews since 1979,  and contributed to the teaching of Sustainable Development since its inception. Research

1. International negotiations for the protection of the global commons; including studies of The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Antarctic Treaty and protocols relating to the protection of the ozone layer and climate change.

2, UN Security Council; its selective use of so-called 'humanitarian intervention' and so-called 'peacekeeping'. UN reform.

3. Since the UK's recent re-discovery of expeditionary and punitive warfare  I also write on how these 'savage wars of peace' (Kipling), affect the military covenant and the British culture of remembrance.
