About
Ahmed is a PhD student at the University of St Andrews. He holds a BSc degree in Economics from Cairo University, Egypt (1999), and an M.A. degree in International Relations of the Middle East from Durham University, England (2010). Ahmed's master's dissertation was concerned with analysing the security structure of the Middle East post-Iraq war.

Thesis Topic
Ahmed's thesis examines democratization and political change in the Arab Middle East in light of the 2011 popular uprisings/revolutions. The thesis asserts two major themes: social formation and ideological hegemony.
