Erasmus
Application Deadline: Exam held in week 10 of semester 1
Thise scheme is run by the EU. They are primarily designed for you to experience different national perspectives on politics and International Relations, rather than to improve your language skills. You should have language skills before you go.
Teaching at your host institution will be in the local language. At the moment we have places for 4 semesters (ie 2-4 students) in Paris at Sciences-Po. Numbers are under review but that currently seems to be about right for demand from students with the required language skills.
If you are joint honours IR and modern languages, you should apply for the schemes offered by your language department. We have agreed not to send joint honours students on our IR-only schemes.
Other joint honours students may be able to take part but you need to check that your 'other' subject is happy with the courses on offer in the politics departments of partner Universities.
Further details on the 'International Programme' at Sciences-Po.
Application procedure
Entrance for the schemes is decided on the basis of an unseen written exam in the relevant language (French) organised by the School study abroad coordinator. The test is mainly about your linguistic competence but the IR merit of what you write is considered. This exam takes place in December. If you are successful, we can then go on to arrange admission to the relevant University.
Universities tend to expect applications around April and give you final confirmation in May/early June. However, once the School has decided to send you it is very unusual for students to be turned down by host institutions.
