IR5601: Research in International Relations

This module is an introduction to research in the School of International
Relations at the University of St Andrews. It addresses various elements of the
research experience in the School, with a focus on issues specific to the skills
necessary for research in international affairs, broadly defined. More formal
research methods, theories of IR, and skills training in the social sciences
and arts will be addressed in other modules offered in the University.

Learning outcomes

As a result of taking this module, students will develop:

  • An understanding of the facets of undertaking research in a university community.
  • An understanding of professional development in the fields of international relations and politics more broadly
  • Research skills to enable the development of the thesis proposal and the pursuit of research for the thesis and future scholarly work.
