Biography

Pınar holds a B.A. degree in International Relations from the Cyprus International University, Northern Cyprus (2007), and a M.Sc. degree in International Relations from Middle East Technical University in Turkey (2010).

Her M.Sc. research aimed to inquire the origins of the Cyprus Conflict by analyzing the historical developments that laid the ground for the inter-communal dispute during the British Rule in the island.

She also attended the Political Science Ph.D. programme of Middle East Technical University for a year (2010-2011), where she completed modules on Cultural Politics and Human Rights.

Between 2004 and 2009, she had internships at the Republic of Turkey Undersecretariat for Maritimes Affairs and The Grand National Assembly of Turkey, European Union Harmonization Commission and in the International Peace Research Institute Oslo, (PRIO) Cyprus Center. Her main research was on the Turkish- Greek Relations and the Cyprus Issue.

She worked as a researcher at the Cyprus International University, Center for Social and Strategic Research in 2009 in a project on the Turkish Decision Makers regarding their positions in Cyprus Problem. And in 2010-2011 she was a project assistant of the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV)’s project on the Functional and Institutional Revision on the TRNC Government.

She also taught a module on Human Rights in Near East University- Department of International Relations in the Summer Term 2010-2011.

Pinar is currently a Ph.D. student in International Relations in the University of St. Andrews. Her further research focuses on the in-group and inter-group relations, the identity formation and representation of the other among Cypriots in relation to antagonistic Turkish and Greek nationalisms.
