Biography

Self, identity and the other are my primary research interests, theoretically as well as empirically. My current research study focuses on the European Union relations with its Eastern neighbours, namely Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, as well as on the social practices of EU practitioners in the way they negotiate the European as oppose to the other, and the normative and moral functions of the EU in the region. My research project is funded by the ESRC (3+).

I am also interested in the use of interactions in institutional settings as well as the analytical methods of conversation and discourse analysis. I am trained in different discursive methods and I am currently training as a conversation analyst at the University of York.

I am a co-founder and convener of the conversation and discourse analysis research group based at the University of Edinburgh, and Scottish Ethnomethdology Discourse Interaction and Talk, aka SEDIT, organization which has recently developed from the former.

I previously worked for at the Berlin office of The German Marshall Fund of the US and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Vienna. I am currently employed by the Scottish Government as a survey analyst.
