Goals
- To provide conceptual clarity on the idea of global constitutionalism and, hence, the role of rights, rules and re sponsibilities in the international systemTo ameliorate conflicts at the global level that arise from co nfusing conceptions of rights, rules and responsibilities
- To advance a greater understanding amongst scholars con cerning different perceptions of the global order
Objectives
- The creation of a community of scholars, policy makers and activists whose insights and ideas can be drawn upon by governments, internatio nal organisations and non-governmental bodies
- To develop new ideas on constitutionalism, rights, rules and responsibilities in the international system through publishing in scholarly media in a wide range of relevant disciplines
- To influence institutions devoted to international governance by presenting conclusions and ideas to individuals in positions of global influence through p olicy papers and personal presentations
- To create new scholarship on rights, rules and responsibilities within a wide range of disciplines by encouraging new and innovative research at the PhD and post-doctoral level
Means
- Convening workshops and conferences during which eminent scholars present papers on these themes, followed by discussions among a geographically and professionally diverse group of participants
- The presentation of findings from these fora to institutes and foundations around the world, targeting government officials, non-governmental activists, and international civil servants. During these presentations, the goal is to achieve a two-way dialogue with participants, providing insights that can be fed back into ongoing discussions
- The publication of commissioned papers and responses in scholarly journals, elite university press monographs, policy papers and web-based working papers
- The provision of research guidance to postgraduate and post-doctoral candidates through initiatives such as the James Wilson Programme and other taught and research paths
