Playing golf at St Andrews during ICC-2011

St Andrews is probably best known as the home of golf, where the Old Course was the first conventional golf course in the world, and the rules of golf were, and still are, laid down by the Royal and Ancient Club (pictured above). The Open Championship was last played here in July 2010.
Several delegates have expressed an interest in playing golf during the International Classification Society. There are seven courses available, plus, in addition, the Kingsbarns, Crail, Torrance, Kittocks and Duke's courses are a short drive out of town.
The only difficult course to book is the Old Course St Andrews. In July 2011, this will be fully booked in advance. If you are a good golfer and wish to play on the Old Course, we advise booking in advance here www.standrews.org.uk
A round of golf on the Old Course costs £140 per person, plus about £40 for a caddie if required. Bookings for 2011 opened on 1st September 2010. The best conference times for a round of golf will be Monday 11th July, Wednesday 13th July (social programme, after lunch), or Friday 15th July (after lunch).

An excellent offer that is normally available to university staff and their guests during the summer months is to play on the Torrance or Kittocks courses at the Fairmont Hotel, St Andrews Bay, for £20 per round (normal cost £110 - £95). The Torrance course (above) is a par-72 links course (7039 yards) designed by Sam Torrance. It is an Open Championship qualifying course and the venue for the Scottish Seniors Open Championship each year. This can be arranged with David Wishart.
