St Andrews experience
St Andrews is Scotland's first university and the third oldest in the English-speaking world, founded in 1413. Over six centuries it has established a reputation as one of Europe's leading and most distinctive centres for teaching and research.
Flanked by the riches of the countryside of Fife, the picturesque town of St Andrews, with its sandy shores, cobbled streets and history-laden architecture, presents a dramatically inspiring scenery and comforting atmosphere to nurture academic interests, test ideas and every so often indulge in good-natured academic banter.
The University has imprinted itself on the town and although it is not a campus institution, St Andrews is easily identifiable as a University town. Its energetic student body –along with the waves of golf enthusiasts- marks the public realm and prospers the town. Being closely integrated with the local community, the character of the town is shaped by the seasons of the academic calendar and the streams of coming and going students.
