Schools are asked to treat absence from classes on those days sensitively. So long as a student lets tutors know in advance, self-certifies their absence appropriately and undertakes to catch up on missed work, an absence for religious observance on one of the recognised holidays should not be counted against them e.g. through the issuing of an academic alert.
