Alternative Format

Satisfying requests from staff, students, applicants and visitors for information provided into 'Alternative Format' is a legal duty.

The University is proud to have onsite provision for creating information in a range of accessible methods. The Alternative Format Suite (AFS) provides:

  • a service to transfer documents into alternative formats, such as:
    • Audio
    • Braille
    • Large Print

When providing text to the service, photocopies must be clear to read and provided at an agreed time in advance.

Sector guidance:

In 2012 the University's AFS within IT Services and Student Services, successfully participated in a programme to demonstrate good practice provision and process, with the E&D Officer providing input on legislative compliance. The University AFS provision demonstrated to the HE sector of how the service is at a consistently high standard. Further information available on ECU webpage: Digitisation and reformatting
