Postgraduate Admissions

Application Procedure

Postgraduate Admission Requirements

Applicants should normally have at least a 2.1 or equivalent (GPA 3.6 or better) in their first degree. A taught masters degree of similar standard is normally required for direct entry to the PhD, although each application is based on its own merits.

Students whose first langauge is not English must submit evidence of their language competency.

How to apply

Those interested in PhD study should normally in the first instance contact a relevant member of academic staff to discuss their area of research and establish the availability of appropriate supervision.
Those interested in M Litt studies should consult the relevant web page for further information on our courses before making a formal application.

Information about funding opportunities can be found here.

Information about formal application procedures can be found here.

We recommend that you begin the application process as early as possible in the academic year.  NB that we will only consider applications for funding from students who have been made a formal offer by the university before the beginning of March for PhD students and early April for M Litt students. This means you must apply well in advance of those dates.
