Penalisation of Late Work and Extensions
Any essay, or other coursework, which is submitted after the relevant deadline, without being covered by adequate evidence of medical problems or of another serious emergency or by the prior permission of the tutor concerned, will be penalised as follows:
- 0.5 points will be deducted for every working day (including Saturday, Sunday and any holiday) after the relevant deadline. Students submitting work late are strongly advised to have the date of submission documented by one of the secretaries before asking for the work to be placed in the tutor's pigeon hole. No deductions will be made for Saturdays, Sundays or May Day.
- Work submitted more than two weeks after the relevant deadline but before the School's final Permission to Proceed deadline will receive an automatic fail mark of 1.
A different set of regulations govern the penalisation of Arabic Language Exercises submitted late:
- 1.0 point will be deducted for every working day after the relevant deadline. Students submitting work late are strongly advised to have the date of submission documented by one of the secretaries before asking for it to be placed in a tutor's pigeon hole. No deductions will be made for Saturdays, Sundays or May Day.
- Work not handed in by the date when the assignment is scheduled for being returned to the class will attract an automatic fail grade of 1.
Tutors have discretion to grant prior permissions for late submission of work ("Extensions") to make fair allowance for adverse circumstances affecting a student's ability to submit the work on time. Normally such permissions will only be granted for circumstances that are both unforeseen and beyond the student's control.
No work will be accepted after the final School deadline. If any work is outstanding, Permission to Proceed will be withdrawn.
