Assessment Procedures for Taught Programmes (Postgraduate Diploma, MLitt and MPhil)

  1. Assessment is exclusively by coursework. Students will be required typically to submit two or three pieces of written work of broadly equal length for each 40-credit module. The overall number of words submitted should be about 10,000-12,000.
  2. Students must submit two paper copies and one electronic copy (through MMS) of each assignment.
  3. Coursework will be double-marked internally, and is also subject to external moderation.
  4. Assignments have to be submitted in line with an advertised submission timetable.
  5. Work handed in late will be penalised in line with the School of History's penalisation tariff:
  6. Work submitted after the final School deadline for the relevant semester will not be accepted and a mark of 0 will be entered.Apart from (medical or personal) emergencies, all extensions have to be applied for and granted before the deadline by the Programme Director.
  7. All assessed work will be marked on the University's 20-point scale. The following grades will apply:

 

16.5 and over:

Pass with Distinction

13.5-16.4:

Pass

7-13.4:

Fail (but qualifies for the Graduate Diploma)

less than 7:

Outright Fail
