The School of Geography and Geosciences conducts international-calibre, agenda-setting research spanning both social and physical environments, focused mainly within its two research groups. The School was awarded a grade 4 in the 2001 RAE and has since expanded through the appointment of six full-time academic staff and several new research staff. We have an excellent record of attracting funding from the research councils, charitable trusts, central and local government, and the private sector.

All academic staff collaborate with colleagues in both the UK and around the world. Several international conferences and workshops have been hosted by the school recently and we regularly welcome research visitors who have interests in common with researchers in the school.

The vibrant research culture within the school is also reflected in our 'World Series' seminar programme, as well as regular informal meetings organized by the research groups.

Our research activity is underpinned by outstanding secretarial, technical, graphics, research and postgraduate support. Our equipment base for research in Earth system dynamics is impressive and we are also well-equipped with GIS, statistical and qualitative analysis software.

We work in an exciting research environment, which is committed to producing high quality, innovative research. If you would like to learn more about the School's activities, please contact Professor Duncan Maclennan (Director of Research) by Email: dm103@st-andrews.ac.uk.
