Freedom of Information (FOI)

Welcome to the University of St Andrews Freedom of Information (FOI) Publication Scheme.

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 promotes greater openness and accountability by providing a general right of access to all recorded information held by Scottish public authorities. The Act applies to the University of St Andrews and to the companies we own, either wholly or in partnership with other public authorities.

Anyone anywhere in the world is entitled to access the recorded information the University holds.  Information is made available either proactively through the University's publication scheme or in response to individual requests.

This Publication Scheme has been developed to meet the requirements of the Freedom of  Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and is designed to act as an information resource not only for staff but also as a publicly accessible source of University information. Where appropriate information may be withheld from disclosure and fees charged for the provision of information in certain circumstances.

The Act does not apply to Environmental information but the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 give you similar rights.

The University's publication scheme:

  • Sets out the classes of information the University publishes.
  • Says how the information is made available and whether there is a fee.
  • Contains core University information such as policies, guidelines and reports.

If you have any comments on the Publication Scheme itself, wish to make a request for information or require assistance, please contact:
