Welcome new students
This is always an exciting point of the year for us as we prepare to welcome a new batch of students to St Andrews. Our confirmed film studies students – whether single or joint honours – should receive a welcome pack from us in the next week or so. These have been put together with the help and expertise of one of our students, Fidan Gasimova, who graduated this year and won the Richard Dyer award for outstanding film studies student. The pack includes:
- a letter from our Head of Department, Dr Michael Cowan
- a letter from our Film Studies School President, Kit Klaes
- a flyer for our peer-mentoring Buddy Scheme
- a handy map of film studies locations around town
- and selection of quotes from our students.
If you have any questions before you arrive, please do get in touch. For all new students, whether you are already signed up for film or are one of the many students who is interested in taking a film module at St Andrews, you can make a head start and see the reading list for our core module FM1001: Key Concepts in Film Studies.
There will be plenty of opportunities to learn about film studies, and to meet other film students, during orientation week. Please do come along to our welcome drinks party at the Byre Theatre on Thursday 8th September (4.30-7) and you can also learn more about the department at the Academic Fayre (5 September).
We are, of course, looking forward to welcoming back all our existing students, and to seeing a new batch of students progressing to honours. This is always a busy time of year for us as we get ready for our new and returning students. Enjoy the last few weeks of the break, and we look forward to seeing you all soon!
