School President

Larissa Gumuchdjian has been elected as school president for Film Studies.

Media Coverage of Film Festivals and East Asia Book Launch

The book launch of Film Festival Yearbook 3: Film Festivals and East Asia at the Jeonju International Film Festival in South Korea has received significant media attention in South Korea. A report on the launch was posted on the festival's blog and an article was also featured in the Chonbuk Daily.

Chariots of Fire recreation

Scenes from one of the greatest and most beloved of British films, Chariots of Fire, were originally shot on the West Sands at St Andrews. To mark the film's 30th anniversary and to raise money for Sue Ryder Care, on the 15th May runners once again took to the sands in a recreation of this iconic moment in film history.

Dr Ruby Cheung is appointed as an Honorary Research Fellow

Dr Ruby Cheung, formerly a Research Associate on the Dynamics of World Cinema project, has been appointed as an Honorary Research Fellow within the School of Philosophical, Social Anthropological and Film Studies. Her appointment will run until 30 April 2014. Congratulations, Ruby!

Dina Iordanova has joined the international advisory board of The Image

Dina Iordanova has joined the international advisory board of The Image and will be keynote speaker at its conference at the International Film Festival in San Sebastian.

CMI Directorship for Prof. Iordanova

In recognition of her scholarship on issues related to the study of film festivals, Prof. Dina Iordanova has been invited to join the Board of Directors of the Centre for the Moving Image which runs the Edinburgh International Film Festival. In 2011 the EIFF festival will run between 15 and 26 June as a non-competitive event.

The Centre for Film Studies visits the Uist Eco Film Festival

Alex Marlow-Mann, Alex Fischer and our visiting doctoral researcher Tit Leung Cheung travelled up to the Outer Hebrides at the end of April to attend a brand new film festival dedicated to films focusing on ecological issues.
