Film Studies at St Andrews welcomes new staff member: Professor Robert Burgoyne!

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Robert Burgoyne to our new Chair in Film. Currently at Wayne State University in Detroit, USA, Prof. Burgoyne is one of the leading international specialists in the area of film and history. He will be joining the department in January 2010.

PhD Scholarships Available for 2009-2011!

The Centre for Film Studies at the University of St Andrews is offering up to four PhD fees-waiver scholarships in Film Studies. Focus is open but broadly defined as work that falls within the areas of expertise of members of the Centre.

Staff Update: Dr William Brown's article on Steven Spielberg published in New Review of Film and Television Studies

Lecturer William Brown has had published his article 'It's a Shark Eat Shark World: Steven Spielberg's Ambiguous Politics' in Volume 7 Issue 1 of the New Review of Film and Television Studies. The essay is part of a special edition of the journal on Steven Spielberg, which has been guest edited by Nigel Morris of the University of Lincoln.

St Andrews Film Studies well-represented at SCMS 2009 (Tokyo)

Post-doctoral fellow Dr. Ruby Cheung and PhD students Yun-hua Chen, Yun Mi Hwang, Lars Kristensen, and Serazer Pekerman will be presenting their work at the forthcoming convention of the Society of Cinema and Media Studies in Tokyo in May 2009. Since the London conference of SCMS (2005) it has become a tradition for the department to be well represented at this main event in the field. Once again, our members will be leading the trend among British academics involved with the SCMS.

Queer Cinema Screenings to take place at the Centre for Film Studies

This term we are showing some extremely interesting films as part of our Queer Cinema group. No need for any prior knowledge of Queer theory, just come and enjoy these great films! Screenings are held on selected Wednesdays at 6pm, in the Film Studies Boardroom, at 99 North Street. All welcome. Please click on the above link for the schedule of screenings.
