Faculty Update: Dr David Martin-Jones: Forthcoming Publication and a Presentation at the Sorbonne.

Dr David Martin-Jones has been invited to give a talk at the Sorbonne (Paris III) in October 2008 on the subject of his most recent monograph: Deleuze, Cinema and National Identity. He also announces his forthcoming book, Deleuze Reframed (I.B. Taurus, 2008), cowritten with Damian Peter Sutton.

Faculty Update: Dr Belen Vidal: Publication and Presentation

Belen Vidal's article on the cinema of Isabel Coixet will appear in Contemporary Spanish Cinema and Genre (Manchester University Press, forthcoming). She was a guest lecturer in the international symposium 'Visions of Struggle: Women's Filmmaking in the Mediterranean' (November 2-3, 2007, Wellesley College, USA) on women's cinema and the reinterpretation of women's shifting roles in Mediterranian countries today.

Faculty Update: RSE Grant Awarded to Dr Elisabetta Girelli

Dr. Elisabetta Girelli was recently awarded a grant from the Royal Society of Edinburgh, enabling her to spend two weeks in Prague, where she researched Czech cinema and met with colleague at a variety of prestigious film institutions, including FAMU, the film academy. During her trip she made plans for future collaborations and helped to make contributions to the University library.

The Department of Film Studies welcomes Leverhulme Visiting Professor Mette Hjort

The Department of Film Studies is delighted to welcome Leverhulme Visiting Professor Mette Hjort from Lingnan University in Hong Kong. In addition to teaching the module, Issues of Transnational Cinema and Narrative Convention, she will present a paper in the Centre for Film Studies.
