PhD: Further funding opportunities
You may be eligible to pursue other funding opportunities, partial fee-waivers or AHRC studentships, so early application is recommended.
Information about various funding opportunities is available from the University's Postgraduate Admissions Office. Here you will find a range of funding opportunities for students from the UK, Europe and Overseas, typically including schemes for international students open to: US and Canadian students, students from certain countries in Asia, Africa and the Indian subcontinent, Commonwealth countries, developing countries, and so on.
Doctoral Awards Scheme
The AHRC is the main funding source for PhD studies in the field of film studies in the UK. They operate a range of awards for doctoral study, which is subject to a complex set of rules and regulations. For more information, please check out the outline of AHRC's Doctoral Awards Scheme, which includes a link to the Guide for Applicants for Postgraduate Awards in the Arts and Humanities: The Doctoral Awards Scheme, covering questions on eligibility and the methods of application.
Overseas Students
If you are an overseas student (non-UK and non-EU), you may be eligible for a partial fee-waiver scholarship of £2,000. If you are awarded one of these, you may be able to use the award in your search for matching funds from other sources. Please query with us about this possibility. For further information about funding opportunities please click here, or make general inquiries with the university's Scholarship Offce.
MLitt and MPhil
If you are offered a place, you are required to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to pay the appropriate fees and support yourself. Information on funding sources is available from the University’s postgraduate website.
If you need to apply for external funding for your studies, we recommend that you be in touch with us from early on, either applying formally or signalling your intention to apply. Some funding bodies require a letter certifying you will be admitted to the programme, and this takes time. To avoid disappointment, plan to have your application with us by the end of February at the latest.
Other Funding Opportunities
New funding opportunities come up all the time. Stay posted by visiting the University’s Postgraduate Admissions Office for updates.
