Postgraduate Open Day & 5th Annual Postgraduate Study Day: Open Access Film Studies

Our fifth annual study day will be devoted to the subject of the free dissemination of film studies work and resources via the internet. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Catherine Grant, Senior Lecturer at the University of Sussex, who runs the 'Film Studies for Free' website (http://filmstudiesforfree.blogspot.com/). This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in postgraduate study at the Centre of Film Studies to meet staff and current studetns.

CFS Talk: Dr. Alex Fischer, Conceptualising Basic Film Festival Operation: An Open System Paradigm

This presentation examines the fundamental components of film festival functionality and provides a systematic means of prioritising and modifying the operational structure of these events so as achieve successful operation.

World Book Day

The 5th of March is World Book Day and across the UK hundreds of volunteers will be distributing free books to the general public. Prof. Dina Iordanova is one such volunteer, and she will be handing out copies of Erich Maria Remarque's First World War classic, All Quiet on the Western Front, the basis for Lewis Milestone's Oscar-winning film of the same name. All are welcome.

60 Hour Film Blitz

This three day event is designed to inspire people to engage in the 600th Anniversary of the University by producing a three minute film on St Andrews. The films will be screened in a closing ceremony on Friday 4th March and prizes will be awarded. The event is open to all and no previous filmmaking experience is required.
