Film Studies Annual Postgraduate Study Day: Sex in the Cinema
What is the role of sex in mainstream cinema? When is sex art and when is it pornography? Art cinema has a long tradition of making films with sexually explicit scenes. How is the line drawn differently in different contexts of world cinema? This study day explores these questions in round table discussions and a paper from guest speaker, Professor Linda Ruth Williams: "I know it when I see it": Sex, simulation and classification in mainstream cinema since the 1990s.

Centre for Film Studies Talk: Dr Justin Smith on the British Cinema of the 1970s
Dr Justin Smith will speak on the British Cinema of the 1970s, interrogating the previous taste-based models of scholarship. He provides a fresh take on an issue that demands not only that we account for the widespread success of dubious fare, but that we examine exactly what passes critical muster.
