CFS Talk: Sarah Street, Colour Transformations in Wartime Britain
This paper concentrates on the wartime years in Britain, when the advancement of colour was threatened by scarcity, disruptions and, on the part of some, scepticism as to its necessity. This case study demonstrates how cultural and material contexts impact on aesthetics and influence how technology works.

CFS Talk: Mark Jankovich, Vicious Cycles: The Industrial Development of the 1940s Horror Film
This paper will examine the industrail development of the cycle of Hollywood Studio horror films produced in the wake of Frankenstein, Dracula and Son of Kong and the ways in which these shaped in transformations between 1939 and 1946.

This paper emerges from ongoing research around the ways in which recessionary culture tends to restate anachronistic formulations of gender, revising existing cultural tropes rather than formulating new sub-genres, offering a detailed discussion of the explicitly recessionary film The Company Men (2010).

The 7th Annual Postgraduate Conference will welcome Dr Lee Grieveson, Reader in Film Studies at University College London. Dr Grieveson will present a keynote paper, and give feedback to all Film Studies postgraduates on their performance.
