MLitt and MPhil Admissions

Entrance Requirements

Normally, a good first degree in a relevant discipline, 2:1 or better or the equivalent international qualification is expected. Applicants with other suitable qualifications will be considered as well. For the MPhil and PhD course of studies, you are expected to present a developed proposal for your research.

For more information on proposals and PhD admissions, please go to the PhD page.

Application

The application materials are available from the Postgraduate Admissions office. When filling out your application it is advisable that you include a statement explaining your interest in film studies, so that we are able to give it serious consideration.

You also need to include a piece of written work, of up to 2,000 words. This should be an academic piece of writing, preferably about film or a related subject. For example, this might be an essay you have previously submitted as part of your coursework, perhaps including references and bibliography as appropriate.

English Language Proficiency

You are expected to have an advanced knowledge of English, both spoken and written. If your first language is not English, you will be required to sit an appropriate test, and achieve the required TOEFL/IELTS/CCP score/grade (check with Postgraduate Admissions for current requirements). You are also expected to develop a reading knowledge of languages relevant to your areas of proposed research.
