CFS Talk: Joshua Yumibe, Into and Out of the Screen: The Immersive Colours of Silent Cinema

DescriptionThis paper examines the various ways in which colour was used during silent cinema to create an immersive colour space for the embodied spectator. Drawing on Walter Benjamin's notion of Spielraum ("play space") to demarcate the potentials of cinematic immersion, three primary examples will be discussed.
