Recycling Statistics
The University of St Andrews is aiming to achieve Zero Waste by 2020. In 2011/2012, we reached an impressive recycling rate of 71%. Congratulations to all staff and students who worked together over the year to make this possible.
The University’s recycling rate has been steadily increasing every year, however the overall volume of waste created has also been rising. See the graph below.
In 2011/2012, the University of St Andrews recycled 1,713 tonnes of waste, and sent 720 tonnes to landfill. In 2010/2011, we recycled 1,323 tonnes and sent 743 tonnes to landfill. That means that despite decreasing what was sent the landfill, the overall amount of waste that the University is producing has risen.
