MLitt Scholarships for School of English Students

The School of English was able to confirm the following awards for students applying to any of our MLitt programmes for entry in September 2012. It is hoped that a similar level of funding will be available for 2013 entrants.

1.  The Craik Scholarship.  This award consists of a current equivalent home fee waiver (worth £3,828 in 2012-13) and a contribution to maintenance of around £9,000 for the year, or a complete Overseas fee waiver (worth £13,050 in 2012-13). This award will be made to an outstanding candidate who intends to go on to pursue doctoral research, potentially at St Andrews. Both Home/EU and Overseas students are eligible to apply.

2.  The Urquhart Scholarship. This award consists of a current equivalent home fee waiver (worth £3,828 in 2012-13). It is open to Home/EU and Overseas students.

To apply for either or both of these awards, please complete the downloadable MLitt scholarship application form and submit it to the School of English by 1 March.  Please note that only those applicants who have already been guaranteed a study place on their chosen programme by the deadline date will be considered for these scholarships. Study applications, including all supporting documents and references, must have been received by 1 February to ensure that they can be processed before the cut off date for scholarships.

AHRC

Please note that the School has only PhD awards available from the AHRC block grant programme.

The Enid Greig Nicol Scholarship

The Enid Greig Nicol scholarship is funded by a trust established by the late Dr James & Enid Nicol, both alumni of the University.  Dr Nicol, who died in 2005, graduated with a BSc in Physics in 1945 and Enid, who passed away in 1995, graduated with an MA in 1941.  This Trust was established in recognition of the substantial benefits they gained from their education at St Andrews.

The Enid Greig Nicol scholarship may be available in 2013-14.
