Vicky Paine
Education and Experience
Vicky Paine has a BA in Philosophy and English and an MA in Art History, both from the University of Sussex, as well as an MLitt in Creative Writing (Poetry) from St Andrews. Her PhD thesis is titled ‘Contemporary Poets’ Responses to Science’ and it explores the lively and productive dialogue between contemporary poetry and science, encompassing British, European and North American writers. Her research explores the opposing authorities of science and poetry, the shared ‘laboratory of language’ of scientists and poets, the poetic nature of scientific thinking, the way poetry unites knowledge of the material world with subjective experience, and the emergence of eco-poetics.
Vicky continues to write poetry and fiction: she has won the Robert McLellan Poetry Award and the Ruth Rendell Short Story Competition, and was shortlisted for an Eric Gregory Award by the Society of Authors.
