Caroline Ailsa Howitt

Education and Experience

Caroline received her MA in English at the University of Glasgow before completing a Master's degree on Literature 1780-1900, under the Snell Scholarship at Balliol College, Oxford. Her areas of interest include late nineteenth-century literature, myth and fantasy, morphologies of genre, rhetorical manipulation, fictional and critical sensationalism, hauntology, and integrations between creative and academic modes of writing.  She has been published in journals including Romanticism and The Journal of Stevenson Studies, and contributes regular reviews to the Times Literary Supplement.  Her PhD thesis is entitled Aspects of Romance in the Prose of Robert Louis Stevenson.
