Support Services - Industrial Placements
Within the University of St Andrews, Residential and Business Services currently operate nine residences, eight of which offer on-site catering for numbers ranging from 50-530.
Over a number of years we have developed close links with colleges and universities to provide industrial experience for students undertaking hospitality qualifications. Many of our previous management trainees have subsequently been appointed to positions within the organisation and have developed their careers in hospitality management with the University.For an industrial placement of up to 20 weeks, we would focus on the student gaining all round experience in the different areas of our operation, based in a specific residence but with the opportunity to work in other locations to gain additional experience. Depending on the student's requirements and objectives, the placement could include the following:
- food and beverage production and service
- bar and cellar operations
- stock control and administration
- reception
- house-keeping services
- special functions operations and co-ordination
We are an Investor in People and are committed to training and development for all our staff.
Conditions of Service for industrial placement include a full induction process and the appointment of a mentor in the workplace. We would provide accommodation for the duration of the industrial release period.
